About Me

Wow, I've had this blog up for a year almost and I never thought to do an "About Me" page!  So here it is, ladies and gents, as of November 29, 2013. =)

My name is Ada and I'm a Chinese-Canadian mom of two kids, Derek and Kristen, and mucking about this stage of life called parenting with my husband, Benny.  I was born in Hong Kong S.A.R. and came to Canada when I was 2 years old.  I grew up in Flemingdon Park (Flemo!), moved to Richmond Hill in Grade 8, attended Bayview Secondary School, University of Toronto and Tyndale Seminary for my OSSD, BA and MDiv respectively.

I was a pastor for 2 years after graduating when I went on maternity leave after the birth of my son, Derek.  During my mat leave I came to realize than emotionally and to some degree, physically, I would not be able to handle the rigours of ministry and be the parent I desired to be.  I resigned from my position, perhaps the most difficult decision I've had to make, and took up being a barista (again!) at Starbucks.

I started this blog because I realized that, while I am no expert in the baby field, I had researched enough in certain areas to at least give my thoughts about what to buy, what to read, and what to consider.  I imagined creating this amazing resource for moms that would help guide through the myriad of decisions to be made as the known-yet-unknown date of the baby's arrival looms over the horizon.  Well, as much as I love blogging, it's hard to keep up with the posts with the myriad of daily tasks and priorities of keeping the baby alive and well, never mind with two of them!  My posts sometimes ending up more like ventings and rants rather than practical tips but I hope the latter outweighs the former to render this blog useful to most visitors.

You'll see in my earlier posts that I keep apologizing for not posting as regularly.  I've decided to stop apologizing and just post when I can, hopefully once a week.  You may discover as you read that I am neurotic, use too many exclamation marks (though rarely at the same time), can be witty and the poster child for mommy brain all in one sentence, an idealist, a practicalist, a creative, and a cheeseball.  If any of these annoy you, I hope that at the very least you find something helpful amongst my posts and I'm pretty sure if we ever meet, I'll find something annoying about you as well. =)  Glad we're all on the same page.

On that note, I'd love to receive comments, partially as an affirmation that I'm not typing out to an endless void but I'm sure others would like to hear alternate opinions as well (agreements are welcome too!).  Raising a child takes a village and this is my contribution in the vast interweb; I invite you to do the same, even if it's just a few sentences (words?).  Parents can never have a village too small.

Alrighty I'll stop here.  I'm an expressive introvert and can just go on and on.  I'll leave that for my posts.  Hope you enjoy!
